Staki Installation Guidlines
We recommend to use a professinal Floor Fitter for installing Staki flooring.
The information below is taken directly from Staki website.
Wooden floor installation begins with a visual assessment of the floor. Before installing the floor, the installer or owner must assess the quality of the floor, finish, color, and select defective boards. You need to make sure the boards are suitable for installation. If the floor is not of good quality, contact the manufacturer. The manufacturer is not responsible for the quality of the floor or other costs incurred if you install boards with easily noticeable defects.
However, keep in mind that wood flooring is a natural product with possible changes in texture and color that are affected by quality. Also, the manufacturer is not responsible for the fact that the color of the boards is not identical for example, because each tree is a different color, each shade looks different, covered on a different type of boards.
The installer or owner is responsible for ensuring that the floor is installed and operated properly.
How to put the floor properly?
Floor installation must be one of the last repairs. Before installing a wooden floor, make sure that all wet work in the room where the floor will be laid has been completed, which can increase the humidity level. Any subsequent moisture will be absorbed into the wooden floor and may deform.
Wooden floors are like a living organism that is very sensitive to changes in the environment, especially changes in humidity. During the summer, when it is very hot and humid, the relative humidity can rise up to 90%. When the humidity rises above 65%, conditions are already created that can deform the wooden floor. All the excess moisture is absorbed into the wooden floor and these convex, taking the shape of a boat. If this has already happened, the cause of the increase in humidity must be eliminated as soon as possible. Wooden floors can regain their original dimensions, but you will have to arm yourself with patience until all the excess moisture evaporates from them, but they can also remain in a slightly altered shape. The floor should then be sanded to remove any unevenness and re-varnished or oiled.
In the winter season, the reverse process takes place, during the heating season, the relative humidity decreases sharply, and the air dries out. When the humidity drops below 45%, the wood evaporates its moisture, which can lead to gaps between the boards. This is a natural process. To reduce or avoid this process, you need to install an air conditioning system that would maintain the appropriate relative humidity throughout their service life, solid floorboards - 45-55%, two-layer parquet - 40-60%.
The second, very important criterion for floor installation is a suitable room temperature of +18 ± 4 º C. Wooden floor packaging must be stored for 2 days before laying in the room where it will be installed to allow the wood to adapt to the humidity and temperature of the room. Leave the packages unpacked. All of the above conditions must be in place at least one week before the floor is laid. Improper storage conditions can also affect the deformation of floorboards. Do not store wooden floors in a damp basement!
STAKI oak floors can be installed directly on concrete, OSB, plywood. The substrate must be level (3 mm unevenness / 2 m 2 ), dry, protected from moisture rising from below (eg by using special waterproofing compounds). The base must not be cork panel, blown polyethylene and other soft surfaces. Concrete moisture content should not exceed 2 CM%, OSB panels, plywood moisture content - 10-12%.
In order to install oak parquet boards on a heated base, it is necessary to make sure that the heating is evenly distributed over the entire area of the wooden floor. In addition, the amplitude of temperature fluctuations should be small when heating wooden floors. The recommended change in floor temperature is no less than 2-4 ° C per day, both by raising or lowering the floor temperature. With the heating on, the surface temperature of the wooden floor must never exceed + 27 ° C. It is necessary to ensure equal operating conditions in the area of all heated floors, so that there are no gaps between the parquet boards or cracks in the surface of the board.
The installer or owner is responsible for ensuring that the parquet is installed only on a suitable base. The floor installation base must be smooth, dry, strong, not crushed or otherwise damaged, of suitable thickness, clean of other building materials such as glue, putty, dirt, cement or other. The manufacturer is not responsible for the quality of the parquet if you choose the wrong floor mounting base, the wrong tools or glue.
For parquet gluing, special glue is used, which firmly and elastically glues the floorboards to the base. If wooden floors are to be glued to a heated base, first make sure in the instructions that they are suitable for this.
The manufacturer of STAKI oak floors is not responsible for the quality of the parquet, if you have installed them in a floating way as a laminate floor, or glued a solid floor on a heated base.
It is advisable to consult experienced flooring professionals to properly install the floor and allow it to operate for many years, rather than experimenting and trying to do it yourself.
Maintenance and renovation of wooden floors
The last step in installing wooden floors is to cover them with varnish or oil. For a customer who appreciates the natural look of wood, an oiled floor would be more suitable . The oil absorbs well into the wood surface, unlike varnish, which covers the floor with a thin film. In addition, oiled floors are easier to renovate. You will not need to sandtotal floor area if you want to upgrade a small floor area. It is enough to sand only that area and cover it with oil. The limits of previous and new lubrication are not visible. However, do not abandon the oiled floor and update the oiled surface according to the manufacturer's requirements. Wooden floors in high-traffic areas need to be renewed at least twice a year, in medium-intensity areas every year, and in low-traffic areas such as the bedroom, once every two years.
The manufacturer of STAKI oak floors is not responsible for the quality of the floor if you use non-specialized floor finishes or do not maintain them properly.
It is important to keep in mind that wooden floors change color when covered with oil or varnish.
Floor finishing work must be carried out in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, in compliance with safety requirements.
The manufacturer of STAKI oak flooring is not responsible for the quality of the floor if you do the finishing work incorrectly or use the wrong tools or materials.
